nowadays is “how is the international financial crisis”
affecting the sale of Catalina Yachts and “have the
prices of the yachts increased as a result”?
The best way of
addressing these question is firstly to give you a brief history of
the Catalina USA operation which will reassure you of the company’s
strength and secondly to provide you with a summary of our pricing
policies.
Catalina USA is
one of the largest privately owned yachting companies in the USA,
the Head Office is located in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando
Valley and the main manufacturing plant is situated
in Largo, Florida.
Catalina is the
most vertically integrated company in the sailboat manufacturing
industry with the ability to design, engineer and manufacturer many
components in-house. Such as the in-house creation of metal
components, inner spring mattresses, sails, canvas, interior
and cockpit cushions, woodwork and cabinetry and lead keels (with
its own foundry, Catalina is assured of quality control).
During the 30
years Catalina Australia has been the importer of Catalina yachts,
our pricing policy has been to keep our prices as low as possible.
Over this period of time, we have seen the exchange rate fluctuate
considerably reaching its lowest of .58 cents in early 2000’s and
the highest in May 2008 this year when it reached .96 cents.
While the Australian exchange rate was favourable, we passed these
savings onto you, the consumer.
The collapse of
the Australian $ has impacted upon the price of imported goods and
this, together with the increased cost of international sea freight,
has added almost 30% to our landed costs. We are still
absorbing a large percentage of the cost increase, hoping that raw
material prices will decrease and the Australia $ will recover.
However, the good
news is Catalina Australia’s large network dealership throughout
Australia has enabled the group to purchase at a very good rate from
Catalina USA with the result being we can pass this saving onto you.
Some more good
news is that Catalina USA have a selection of new yachts ready for
shipment now and we can deliver these to you for a very reasonable
price. A number of these yachts have many addition options
which will be shipped at no additional costs.
